The A.R.C. Short for Aluminium, Rubber and Cork was inspired by objects encountered in the Hutongs, and was best known through photographic work "bastard chairs" by Michael Wolf.
Furniture commonly found in the hutongs have no design deadline. Different scrap materials are reconfigured over time to add features and stabilize structure for almost any sitting needs. They represent the essence of resilient design: functional, versatile, and sustainable. Inspired by these furniture pieces, the A.R.C. Chair Collection showcases an artistry that effortlessly integrates various sustainable materials.
Like the chairs found in the hutongs, materials are selected for their inherent properties—Aluminium for strength and durability, rubber for its elasticity, and cork for its warmth to the touch. The A.R.C. Chair balances these elements in a simple, elegant, and practical design.
The A.R.C Collection is made to order and is available in a range of form factors, sizes, and heights for various contexts or occasions. The removable back support band allows the chair to be stackable and easily stowed. The cork seat pad is available with an optional weather-resistant clear coat for outdoor use.
